The food pyramid is a graphic expedient to explain to the people what foods to prefer and what to avoid on a daily basis to conduct a healthier lifestyle. At the base of the pyramid can be found foods that should be eaten more frequently and in abundance while gradually moving up on the pyramid it is advisable to consume less of them.
The pyramid was originally created in 1992 by the USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture) and relied heavily on consumption of cereals and derivatives.
It was subsequently revised by Harvard medical school that, according to new researches in the field of nutrition, has created the pyramid visible on this page.
The guidelines drawn from the pyramid are:
1 ) Eat foods in their most natural form. Prefer unrefined, unprocessed, preferably organic food, such as fruits and vegetables, meat , fish, eggs , nuts, seeds , beans, etc. .
2 ) Eat good proteins. Search for organic eggs, grass-fed meat, fish, or for vegetarians proteins such as tofu or soy (being careful not to be GMOs).
3) Choose good carbs. Avoid refined cereals , white flour and sugar. Prefer whole grains, kamut , but especially fruit and lots of vegetables.
4 ) Eat good fats. Fats have been attacked as the cause of all evil, but in reality it is necessary to make a distinction between the good ones and the bad ones. The good fats such as walnuts, almonds, macadamia nuts, olive oil, ham, avocado, fats in the fish are all examples of good fats that yhe body needs.
5 ) Drink plenty of water. 70% of the population is seriously dehydrated. Do not wait until you are thirsty to drink water, less water you drink less thirsty you become. Drink at least 1.5-2 litres of water a day or more.
6 ) Work out. It is curious how Harvard has inserted working out at the base of the food pyramid, to testify to the importance of not leading a sedentary lifestyle.
7) Integrate with a multivitamin. The other peculiarity of the pyramid has been to have inserted a multivitamin. This acknowledges that nowadays it very difficult to take all the micronutrients needed by the modern food and a good integration has become a necessity.
